Inspired by her interactions with Ray, she enrolled in the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, and graduated with honors. Hrishikesh Mukherjee cast her in Guddi as the titular character, a small schoolgirl fascinated with cinema star Dharmendra.

Guddi is a 1971 Hindi drama film written and directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, and Utpal Dutt appeared in it.
